Sony device owners may want to keep their eyes and ears open for the latest Android-related news, because several devices will be upgraded from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this month.
Leading these devices off is the Xperia U, which has been rumored to be first to receive an update to the second-newest Android platform available. The newest Android version, 4.2 Jelly Bean, is only available for a select few devices at the moment and is reportedly quite buggy compared to Android 4.1.
Before you get too excited about this news, take note that nothing has been confirmed by Sony.
The source of the rumor is tech site, Tech Enclave, whose unnamed sources said that Jelly Bean will be rolling out over-the-air early this month. This means an update may be ready within the next week and a half, depending on the accuracy of the rumor.
While installing the update OTA is the most recommended way of doing so, updates can also be performed via Sony PC Companion or through the Odin software for those who would rather do things manually.
The other phones that may likely be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this month include the Sony Xperia Go, Xperia P and Xperia Sola. Tech Enclave’s sources did not provide an exact date for the rollout, but users can always check their phones’ status to see if an update is available to install.
