Rumors from Samsung and LG’s home country of South Korea claim that both companies are fighting for “dibs” on flexible display technology on a smartphone. The report from FNN News added the names of the devices that may contend to be the first with a flexible display as a selling point – the LG Vu 3 and a special version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
According to FNN News, the LG Vu 3 may be out in the market sometime in October, or if not, some other time in the fourth quarter of 2013. The Galaxy Note 3, on the other hand, was launched last week and will start dropping in stores by late September to early October, but the report claims Samsung has a special edition prepped for the future.
This new variant will come with a flexible display like the LG Vu 3, said the report, and may be released in Q4 2013 as well, with October also a possible release window.
This report is interesting as earlier articles had long quashed rumors that the Galaxy Note 3 will be the first device with a flexible display. Instead, these reports had claimed that Samsung may wait till early 2014 before releasing such a device. With that said, it’s no surprise that Samsung and LG may be jockeying to be first in releasing a phone with flexible display, as both have expressed interest in the technology.
As of now, nothing remains definite and the above mentioned rumor must be taken with a grain of salt.
