Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Expected To Be Unveiled On August 29

Samsung’s mobile phone division has sent out invites for the Unpacked event, which would be held on August 29 in Berlin, just two days before the IFA trade show kicks off in the same city.

The invite didn’t specify what the South Korean firm will unveil at the event, but the packed-in S Pen – the same stylus that Samsung bundles the Galaxy Note with – suggests that we will finally see the much-rumored Galaxy Note 2 hybrid smartphone/tablet announced there.

According to previous rumors, the second-generation Galaxy Note will enjoy a larger 5.5-inch display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung’s own Nature UX user interface overlay and a pair of cameras. The upcoming device should just closely mirror the design philosophy of its predecessor, basing the form factor on Samsung’s current flagship smartphone. If the Galaxy Note looks like a larger Galaxy S2, then the Galaxy Note 2 should appear very much like an upsized Galaxy S3.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is expected to be equipped with a quad-core Exynos chipset similar to that found in the international version of the Galaxy S3, but clocked 200MHz higher, at 1.6GHz. It’s been speculated that there may be two versions of the Galaxy Note 2, one sporting the Exynos silicon and the other having a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset that provides compatibility with 4G LTE networks.

However, Samsung’s usage of the Exynos chipset in the 4G LTE-connected South Korean version of the Galaxy S3 indicates that the Galaxy Note 2 could have the same component and not lose out on compatibility with high-speed wireless networks.
