Nokia Expected To Announce New Lumia Windows Phones in September
There have been new reports suggesting that Nokia may be unveiling its latest collection of Lumia phones, this time to be powered by the upcoming Windows Phone 8 mobile platform. By the looks of things, Nokia may be trying to undercut Apple by launching its new Windows Phones a week before the new Apple iPhone is officially revealed.
The report from Reuters included some interesting comments from Nokia’s big boss Stephen Elop. The CEO commented that a new Lumia phone may be due to arrive soon, but remained ambiguous as to whether the device would be out by early next month, as suggested by the rumor.
Reuters’ report is consistent with earlier news of a Nokia World event to be held on September 5 and 6 in home territory, Helsinki, Finland. Bloomberg had reported earlier this month that this event would mark the unveiling of new WP8 devices.
The Nokia World event will supposedly be focused on the phone maker’s partner companies, and with that in mind, it does indeed sound like the perfect time for a major reveal.
Speaking of Apple’s iPhone 5, the loudest whispers from recent weeks are centered on what could be a thinner design with unibody backplate and the controversial new dock connector, which will be smaller than the legacy 30-pin version. As usual, the new iPhone is rumored to include a larger 4-inch screen and 4G LTE.
There hasn’t been much rumored about the new Lumia phones, but there’s a good possibility they could finally catch up with the trends with specs such as a quad-core processor and NFC support.
