Next-Gen Console Rumors: Is Thief 4 Coming to the Xbox 720 and PS4?

By Admin | 10 August 2012

A few months ago, it was speculated that Eidos’ next installation of the Thief series, Thief 4, was on its deathbed. This was rumored due to the massive organizational problems the game publisher was going through, as a lot of the title’s key designers and developers had sought greener pastures with other companies.

However, Eidos Montreal did post some openings recently, presumably to take the places of those employees who had jumped ship – these openings would involve the design of a stealth-based “next-gen action game,” just what Thief 4 is supposed to be.

Well, it looks like fans of the Thief series can rest easy, because the game is still in development, and rumored to be ready for the release of two next-gen consoles, the Microsoft Xbox 720/Durango and the Sony PlayStation 4.

It appears as if the game’s development would now be centered on making it compatible with the two upcoming consoles, which is realistic given its rumored late 2013 release.

However, Thief 4 remains a mystery since development started in 2009. No website exists for the title, despite the various examples of concept art that have proliferated since then. There have been no actual screenshots or sample trailers released for the game, though this may all change if the next-gen release rumors turn out to be true.

We feel it’s about time Eidos Montreal took Thief 4 out of the dark, but there is also the important matter of breaking in the new employees hired to replace the old ones.
