Motorola Droid Bionic ICS Update Schedule Moved to Q4
The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Droid Bionic on Verizon (or lack thereof) has caused both companies to become the subject of derision by tech journalists and consumers alike.
Despite missing several update deadlines, neither company had provided an explanation behind the delays, nor did they often reach out to users to give a revised schedule for upgrade. Fortunately, Motorola had finally provided news for Droid Bionic users regarding an update schedule. Unfortunately, these users may have to wait a little longer than they were expecting at the time of the announcement.
Late last week, Motorola provided an update schedule for several devices, including the Droid Bionic.
The Motorola Droid Bionic ICS update will take place sometime in the fourth quarter of 2012, which is several months off the original first half of Q3 2012. The fourth quarter of the year covers October, November and December.
Knowing Motorola and Verizon, there’s a formidable chance they might aim for another “photo finish” and wait till December before rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich. The Xoom Family Edition and Droid Xyboard 8.2 will also receive ICS upgrades in Q4 2012. At least it’s good to know that these two tablets can finally get some new software within a few months.
The update schedule stated that the Atrix, Atrix 2, Electrify and Photon 4G smartphones are listed under “Further Plans Coming Soon.” Judging by how many consumer electronics manufacturers use the word “soon”, don’t be shocked if these devices only get an ICS update by the middle of next year, if they do receive updates.
