LG Nexus 4, New Android Version Could Be Unveiled on October 29
Google could follow up Apple’s press event for the 7.85-inch iPad mini less than a week later by announcing some highly-anticipated products, including at least one new Nexus handset and a new version of the Android operating system.
Invitations were sent out on Thursday for an event to be held on October 29 in New York City, with the invites showing a drawing of the New York skyline, the Android search bar and a simple tagline which reads “The playground is open.”
This media presentation will likely serve as the showcase of LG’s rumored Nexus 4 smartphone, Android 4.2, which may possibly be named ‘Key Lime Pie’ and a 32 GB version of the Nexus 7 tablet.
There may also be a few other Nexus phones revealed at the event, although rumors of a Samsung, Sony or HTC Nexus device have been few and far in between compared to the LG Nexus rumors. The Nexus 4 is expected to come with a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but with most of the specifications of the Optimus G.
Coincidentally, Microsoft will also be having its own event on October 29. This will be the official launch of the Windows Phone 8 mobile platform, which will power smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 920, HTC Windows Phone 8X and Samsung ATIV S.
Microsoft will also be launching Windows 8 and the Surface RT tablet on October 26, so the last few days of October should indeed be busy ones for the world of consumer electronics.
