Amazon, Motorola and Nokia Expected To Unveil New Devices in September
The September launch period is chock-full of events by most of the major manufacturers in the smartphone market, but most of them have elected to take an earlier schedule, most likely driven by reports of a September 12 press event by Apple for its next-generation iPhone.
Samsung would have completed its own launch event even before September rolls around, so it isn’t covered here, but Nokia, Motorola and Amazon are the three firms that are working on an early-September release for its new devices.
The busy week ahead of the iPhone 5’s expected unveiling is kicked off by the Nokia World event that starts on September 5. Since the Finnish company has bet on Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform for its main smartphone releases, it is expected to be rewarded by becoming the first manufacturer to have Windows Phone 8 devices in the market.
Its September 5 event should be the ideal forum for related announcements.
Motorola and Verizon have also scheduled their own event on the same day, but this press conference should take several hours after Nokia’s due to time zone differences. Going by FCC regulatory compliance filings, the Droid RAZR HD – a 720p screen-equipped version of the current Droid RAZR – is likely to become the star of this event.
Finally, Amazon is due to hold an event on September 6. The successor to the Kindle Fire should be shown off during this event, but the online retailing giant’s tablet line-up could expand to include several models of 7-inch slates and larger devices that are intended to battle it out with Apple’s full-size iPads.
