Alleged iPhone 5, iPad Mini Dock Connector Photos Get Leaked

Almost everyone agrees that the legacy 30-pin version may be put to pasture soon and that a smaller connector will emerge in its place for both the new iPhone and the so-called iPad mini tablet. But how many pins will it contain?

A new series of leaked photos may give us a better idea of how things are going to look like for the iPad mini in particular.

Based on the most recent new iPhone photo leaks, the headphone jack will be found on the bottom portion of the handset. As far as the iPad mini is concerned, it will also be situated on the bottom, which we find a bit odd, since we thought all along the mini’s headphone jack would be located on top, same as the original full-size iPad. Nonetheless, since leaks should never be expected to be 100 percent legitimate, we’ll exercise some trepidation and give the benefit of the doubt.

Photos of the dock connector were posted, and it appears that there are only eight contacts in one set, and none are located on the top portion. That’s also interesting, because other recent leaks imply that there will be a ninth pin, a piece of metal surrounding each individual pin.

We’re not so sure how that would pan out, but these new photos, particularly those pertaining to the design and not the specs, are only doing more to build up excitement for what could be a dual new iPhone/iPad mini reveal on September 12.
